Zocalo in the Daily Review!

Tim Holmes, proprietor

The Daily Review recently did a piece on Zocalo Coffeehouse reporting on the $10,000 matching fundraiser we held for The Davis Street Family Resource Center.

My favorite quote:
“My entire goal,” he said, “was to build a community space, and sell a little coffee, too.”

A Call for Healthy Foods

For some time now I’ve wanted to carry more vegan, gluten-free, etc. (if I may “etc.” whole categories of food like that), but can’t find sources…

We have some items that we have found or have come our way, but, for instance, our granola supplier, Hidden City Cafe, has dropped off the face of the earth (by phone anyway) and I have nothing to replace them.

I’d love to know if there are any warehouse/supply type stores in the east bay and what items and companies are worthy of attention.

$600 to Go in Davis St Fundraiser

With only hours to go until the end of year deadline, there’s only $615 needed to hit our $10,000 goal!

Consider a donation to day to have Zocalo match your donation. We’re open until 6pm today and open 10am to 6pm New Year’s Day.

MacHeads (feat. Zocalo) on CNBC

Screen shot 2009-12-30 at 3.19.41 PMBefore there was Zocalo I worked in high tech in the south bay for Apple. Now 7 years later, there’s MacHEADS, a documentary about the Apple fan base (or fan boys if you will) and not only am I in it, but so is my brother, nephew, wife, son, and dad!

MacHEADS is showing on CNBC  the following times (for some reason listed in Eastern Time…)

Tuesday, 1/5 at 10pm & 1am ET
Thursday, 1/7 at 9pm & 12am ET
Saturday, 1/9 at 7pm ET
Sunday, 1/10 at 10pm ET

Open New Year’s Day 10-6pm

Zocaloopen_sign will be open on New Years’ Day 10am – 6pm.

Come nurse your hangover, taunt the hungover, or just fall into a morning-after mocha.

Fundraiser at $8K – Will It Reach 10K?

Zocalo’s Fundraiser for Davis Street Family Resource Center is booming! Thank you to all who have been so generous to date. We’ve had so many $5, $25, and $100 donations it’s amazing, and we’ve now received our third $500 Tree Topper donation!

At the moment we’re at $4000, or $8000 with matching funds from Zocalo. We’re hoping to reach $10,000 by the end of the year and only have 6 days left. That means we need only $170 a day in donations! Can you make our day?

It’s as simple as bringing cash or check (made out to “Davis St.” to Zocalo. We’ll match whatever you donate automatically and you can, if you choose, decorate and hang your own ornament! From $5 up, it all ads up… hopefully to $10,000 by the 31st!

Merry Christmas to all.

Thanks to the Daily Review and reporter Jason Sweeney for doing a story on the Davis Street Fundraiser we’re doing. It’s a great story and was front and center in Wednesday’s local section!

San Leandro coffeehouse a fundraising hotspot
“Until Jan. 1, customers can purchase ornaments for the shop’s 9-foot Christmas tree with proceeds going to Davis Street. Holmes is matching the donations until the combined total reaches $10,000.”

Decorate for Davis St. – A Fundraiser

We’re having a fundraiser!

hearts

Decorate the Zocalo tree by donating ornaments and all the money goes to San Leandro’s own Davis Street Family Resource Center!

Davis Street has helped tens of thousands of families in their nearly 40 years serving us. This past year the demand for their services was up five fold.

Ornaments range from $5 hearts to the $500 for the tree topper! Zocalo will match all donations up to a total of $5000 for a total of $10,000 to Davis St. combined.

Come down to Zocalo starting Tuesday and buy one for your family! A donation to Davis Street is the perfect gift to your community.

Cassidy’s Mayoral Run Kickoff – Thurs, 7pm

The kickoff for Stephen Cassidy’s run for Mayor of San Leandro is this Thursday, November 12 at Zocalo. Things start at 7pm and it’ll be your first chance to get to know who Stephen is and whether you believe he should be your next mayor.

It’s an important race and I strongly suggest you get as informed as you can! I’ll see you there…
