Zocalo Coffeehouse. An independent, locally-owned coffeehouse and roastery, located in San Leandro, California. The name, a Mexican-Spanish word meaning "town square" or "town center," was chosen to reflect the goal of community building, focusing not only on the product, but on the place itself.

It’s not just about coffee or tea, it’s about the community.

ZOCALO (SO’-KA-LO’)

A town square or plaza. The heart of the city. The center of social activity.

For almost two decades, a locally owned and independently operated coffee house and roastery has stood at 645 Bancroft Ave in San Leandro, California. Originally Dean's Beans, and then Zocalo Coffeehouse, the shop aims to serve as a crossroads to enable and promote connections in a true Third Place environment. 'Zocalo' is a Mexican-Spanish word meaning "town square" or "town center," and was chosen to reflect the goal of community building and participation.
